How often are the rooms serviced?
If your stay is longer that 7 nights a weekly service is provided. This involves a light clean and change of linen. Extra servicing is available on request and charges will apply.
Do we need US Passports to travel to and from the USVI?
No. A valid photo ID, such as a current driver's license is all that you need. However, if you plan to travel to the neighboring British Virgin Islands a valid and current passport is required. When traveling anywhere it is recommended to have at least two (2) types of valid identification kept separately in case one is lost or stolen.
What is the best way to travel to the US Virgin Islands?
Air travel is the best and easiest method. Several major air carriers like Delta, American, United, and Jet Blue have direct flights to St. Thomas from gateway cities such as Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, New York, and Boston. Other flights can be found from smaller markets such as Ft. Lauderdale on Spirit Airlines and via Puerto Rico on numerous regional airlines. For more information, check out www.visitusvi.com.
Will my cell phone work in the USVI?
AT&T and Sprint work the best here. We recommend that you check with your provider before you leave the US for any applicable roaming charges.
Will my electronics, specifically computers and IPads, work in the USVI?
Yes. Harbour Beach Villas features Broadband high speed Wi-Fi service in each of the units.
Are there any additional taxes, fees, and/or surcharges?
There is a 12.5 % Virgin Island Hotel Tax that is charged per night. There is no sales tax in the Virgin Islands for goods purchased. Each US Resident, including children, can take home $1600 worth of goods bought locally duty free. Everyone must fill out a customs form, CBP Declaration Form 6059B, that is given to you when you check-in at the airport.
Do we go through Customs on the way back?
Yes. We recommend that you arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to your departure time. Once you check in at the airline counter, you will be required to carry your luggage through the customs line. We highly recommend that you have your photo ID, customs form, and boarding pass ready. Once you clear the customs desk, you will take your luggage to the TSA agents for them to process. Then you will proceed through the standard airport screening process with carry-on items, etc.
Are there medical services available on the island?
Yes. There is an excellent medical facility right in Red Hook, The Red Hook Family Clinic. The larger medical center is in Charlotte Amalie and offers excellent care. There are several pharmacies for any possible needs including a new Walgreens.
What is the best way to get to the Villas?
Your best choice for on-island transportation may vary depending on the length of your stay and your plans while you are here. Harbour Beach Villas is located very close to Red Hook, which has all of the amenities and provisions you could need for a short visit (2 to 4 days). So if you are only here for a few days, or plan to spend most of your time on the east end of the island, taking a taxi from the airport to the Villas may be your best option. If you are staying longer or if you want to explore the rest of the island, then renting a car is the way to go. Is there a grocery Store close by?
Yes. The Food Center is located just three miles from the Villas and is easily accessible by car or taxi. Moes Fresh Market is a new grocery store with a fresh deli located in Red Hook. You may experience some sticker shock, as almost everything is more expensive in the islands. However, there is no sales tax on top of the listed price. There are also several other grocery stores on the island that carry various items and pricing does vary.
If you prefer to save a trip to the grocery store and have your Villa stocked with groceries before you arrive, Fresh Foods VI is a great option. Simply place your order online at www.freshfoodsvi.com and they will do the provisioning for you.
Is the ferry dock close by?
Yes. The ferry terminal with both passenger and car options to the outer islands is located just 2 miles up the road in Red Hook.
What is there to do when it rains?
It does rain. However, it is not that often and does not last long before the sun comes back out. When it does rain, often the sun is still shining, we refer to that as liquid sunshine. Afterwards, amazing rainbows pop up around the hillside. Most people use the rainy time to go shopping or explore other parts of the island. Downtown-Charlotte Amalie is the most famous shopping district and is easily accessible without getting too wet. Havensight Shopping Mall is where most of the cruise ships dock and there are a lot of different shops in close proximity. Yacht Haven Grande is a more upscale shopping area and is adjacent to the Havensight shopping area. There is a typical indoor mall located in the TuTu Park area which features a large Kmart as the main anchor store.
Are there US banks in the Virgin Islands?
No. The main banks that operate in the islands are Banco Popular, First Bank, and Scotiabank. However, most of these banks do accept most other banks debit and credit cards at their ATM’s. There is a First Bank ATM located at the airport near the check in counters right before baggage claim. Privately owned ATM’s are located throughout the island and there is one located in the Splash Boutique Shop inside the Aqua Action Dive Center adjacent to the Villas.
Are there any fast food places on St. Thomas?
Yes. There are several mainland franchise operations on the island such as McDonalds, Wendy’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, Dominos, and Subway.
Are there any US branded stores on St. Thomas?
Yes. Kmart, Walgreens, and Home Depot are now on the island.
Is there a crime problem on St. Thomas?
Like everywhere, there is some crime. However, it usually consists of the same type of situations that occur in any city or town and is primarily local in nature. St. Thomas has about 52,000 residents and when cruise ships are in town it can grow to 62,000 quickly. As such, it is always prudent to be aware of your surroundings and practice common sense in safe guarding your belongs as well as yourself. We are a gated community and have night time security. There is also an in unit safe for your individual use.
